The object of arranging the individual switching units optimally on one switch pole is linked with the technology of multiple interruption. This relates in particular to the region of very high operating voltages. In an overall plan, this object according to the invention has been achieved as follows: 1. Central arrangement of three switch units on one pole column; 2. Central drive of the three switch units; 3. Step-by-step matched multiple interruption with one switch unit in each case as the smallest step; 4. Reduction of the number of switching resistors on one pole column; 5. Drive and control of the resistor switching device by means of switching cams; 6. Arc as a transient structural element. A greatly simplified structural shape results from 1. to 6. as well as considerable savings both in structural parts and in the weight of the switch. This all increases its reliability.
