PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display device which permits identification of a display without incorporating any illuminating device therein in the nighttime as well by disposing spacers having phosphor layers in a sealing material. CONSTITUTION:Spacers 4 made by coating coumalin 6 expressed by the formula, fluoresceine, rhodamine B or the like on the surfaces of glass fibers or plastic beads are used to seal a liquid crystal layer 5 by using adhesives of spontaneous setting type such as epoxy resin. Thereby, the display is identified distinctly in the nighttime where there is no illumination. Electric power consumption is much smaller than the case in which a lamp is incorporated into the display device and the life of a battery is prolonged. |
