A process for the simultaneous preparation of alkyl tert-butyl ether and recovery of butadiene from a C4-hydrocarbon mixture using a selective solvent, which mixture contains butadiene, isobutene, hydrocarbons more readily soluble in the selective solvent than butadiene and hydrocarbons less readily soluble in the selective solvent than butadiene, in which a) the C4-hydrocarbon mixture is allowed to react with a primary C1- to C6-alcohol in the presence of an acidic catalyst, the isobutene being completely or partially reacted to give the alkyl tert-butyl ether, and b) the reaction mixture obtained then being separated by single- or multi-step extractive distillation in - a current containing the hydrocarbons less readily soluble in the selective solvent than butadiene, - a current containing the butadiene and - a current containing the alkyl tert-butyl ether formed and the hydrocarbons more readily soluble in the selective solvent than butadiene. |
