This regulator comprises a capacitor reservoir for the manipulated variable, which is connected to an actual-value/setpoint comparator via a switching device. In such a regulator, the range of adjustment is to be limited in such a manner that the regulator regulates back from limiting without dead time if possible. For this purpose, the invention provides a differential amplifier connected in cascade to the actual-value/setpoint comparator, which is connected with its positive input to the emitter branch of an emitter follower which controls the final controlling element and follows the field-effect transistor in the circuit. The regulator can be advantageously used, in particular, in pilot-controlled amplifiers in communication devices. <IMAGE>
