A process for disposing of toxic and, in particular, radioactive substances provides for a substantially dry mortar mixture to be introduced into a radiation-shielded chamber and mixed there with the substances to be disposed of and made to set. In this case, the mixture intended for embedding can be made up with water which is likewise to be disposed of and thereby made to set, so that at the same time this water is also disposed of. The process can be carried out particularly easily with the aid of a continuous mixer (2), the filling funnel (3) of which is easily accessible for the mortar mixture or the like, whereas the substances to be disposed of can be introduced into the continuous mixer (2) behind a shield at appropriate feed openings. A similar system can also be accommodated in a glove box (101) if the system is to be operated contamination-freely. <IMAGE>
