Collection tube (10) and method for drawing samples of blood and other biological fluids (17). Blood and other biological fluids resist entering the bore of such tubes when the end face is disposed at right angles to the axis of the tube. This resistance to spontaneous fluid entry into the tube is overcome by increase in the surface area of the open end of the tube. The tube of the invention has a tip (11) construction effective in promoting entry of such fluids into the tube and, where the tube is designed to fill by capillary attraction, in enhancing the rate and extent of such action. The fine-bore tube (10) is transparent and is cylindrical in shape with its tip (11) beveled to define an oval planar end surface (14), the long axis (16) of the oval intersecting a plane normal to the longitudinal axis of the tube (15) at an acute angle (2) within the range of 35 to 60`. |
