The present invention relates to improvements to drinking troughs and water distribution systems for the intensive farming of poultry. The drinking trough according to the invention comprises a hood (2) in the form of a truncated cone which is open at the top in order to allow the passage of a hollow rod (3) which is fixed in a base or plate (1). Viewed in cross-section, the plate (1) has C-shaped end portions corresponding to a trough which is connected via apertures to a recess (7) in the base. The water feed is performed by a valve (16), which is controlled by a float (18) within the drinking trough. The trough (5) can be connected to adjoining drinking troughs for young poultry, so that a constant water level is maintained in the latter. Furthermore, smaller channels can be arranged in the trough (5), or it can be replaced by special drinking vessels for different types of poultry. <IMAGE>
