The invention concerns a metal halide vapour lamp having a heat- reflecting layer, in which the lamp has a discharge vessel made from a high melting point, light-transparent material, expediently quartz, the discharge vessel being provided with lead-in electrodes and a noble gas fill containing metal and halogen additives, the heat- reflecting layer being applied to at least one end of the discharge vessel. The binder of the heat-reflecting layer is a cement containing MgO-MgCl2. The heat-reflecting layer contains a glass precursor made e.g. from boric acid and tetraethyl-silicate with a dry matter content which is preferably between 3-6% of the dry matter content of the material forming the heat-reflecting layer.
|
