1344504 Filtering or ion-exchanging M R B HANKAMMER [trading as CHEMIE BRITA GERATE ING KARL ITTER] 12 May 1971 [13 May 1970] 14441/71 Headings B1D and B1J [Also in Division Cl] A device for treating water with a granular water treatment agent, e.g. actuated charcoal or ion-exchange resin, comprises a funnelshaped member 1 detachably connected to a tapering tubular shell 2 which contains the granular treating agent, the latter being held in by screens 3, 4 formed by two overlapping sets of spaced concentric ring-shaped ribs (Fig. 2, not shown). The tubular shell and the part la of the funnel to which the shell is attached both carry inwardly facing flanges 6, 5 respectively to form two annular seals between the two parts. The ends of the shell are closed when not in use by identical caps 7, 8 each cap having annular flanges which will fit within the top or wider end of the shell and around the outside of the lower or narrower end. A handle 9 is fitted to the upper screen 4 which is removable. The funnel 1, tube 2 and screens are formed of plastics material. A specified use is for the dechlorination of water using actuated charcoal for use in making tea or coffee. When used for ion-exchange, it is said that tubular shell 2 may contain two separate vertically spaced beds of resin, one a cation exchange resin and one an anion exchange resin. These beds may be separated by a water permeable screen. |
