The invention relates to a composition for the external treatment of skin disorders which contains as active ingredient a combination of salicylic acid, hydroquinone, resorcinol, benzoic acid, 85% phosphoric acid and, where appropriate, naphthol in which the individual components are present in the following ratios by weight 0.02-6 g of salicylic acid, 0.02-6 g of hydroquinone, 0.02-6 g of resorcinol, 0.01-3 g of benzoic acid, 0.01-4 g of 85% phosphoric acid and, where appropriate, 0.01-3 g of ss-naphthol in one of the vehicles customary for a lotion, milk, cream, ointment or spray. The composition of the invention is prepared by incorporating first the active ingredients salicylic acid, hydroquinone, resorcinol, benzoic acid and, where appropriate, ss-naphthol and then the phosphoric acid in the vehicle. The composition of the invention is particularly suitable for the external treatment of chronic prurigo, chronic pruritus, dermatitis, lichen ruber planus, dermatomycoses, psoriasis, porphyria cutanea, acne, scleroderma, ichthyosis and epidermolysis bullosa.
