PURPOSE:To form a track with narrow track width in recording, by erasing part of a recording track recorded by a head by another head. CONSTITUTION:Rotary heads 1 and 2 are fitted to a rotary drum so that the flanks on the opposite sides in a tape running direction are at equal height. A magnetic tape 3 is in contact with the rotary drum. On the magnetic tape 3, a track with width W1 equal to the track width of a rotary head 1a is formed by being recorded. A trailing rotary head 2a records an erasure signal to form an erasure signal recording track with width W2 equal to the track width of the rotary head 2a, thereby erasing the signal recording track with the width W1 by the width W2. While the rotary drum has a half turn, the magnetic tape 3 runs by track pitch P and after a signal is recorded by the rotary head 1b, erasure is performed by the rotary head 2b, so that the signal recording track with the width W1-W2 eventually. |
