PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound, selectively, by the vapor-phase catalytic reaction of phenol and alcohol using a catalyst composed of chromium oxide, iron oxide and manganese oxide as main catalyst and combined with boron oxide, aluminum oxide, gallium oxide, etc. CONSTITUTION:An o- and p-alkylated phenol compound is prepared selectively by the vapor-phase catalytic reaction of a phenol compound having at least one H at o- or p-position with an alcohol. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst composed mainly of chromium oxide, iron oxide and/or manganese exide, and added with at least one compound selected from boron oxide, aluminum oxide, gallium oxide and alkaline earth metal oxides. the atomic ratio of the main component to the auxiliary component is pref. 100:(0.05-100). The catalyst may further contain tin oxide, germanium oxide, lead oxide, vanadium oxide, zinc oxide, cerium oxide, alkali metal oxides, etc. |
