The object of the invention is to develop a working method and a production device for machining the mating surfaces of plier joints, with which the problem of the forging tolerances, due to production factors, in the unmachined parts of the pliers available as forging blanks is solved in the series production of pliers. The essence of the invention consists in accommodating the unmachined part of the pliers in a positionally orientated manner on the outer joint mating-surface section, to centre it on the running drilling tool for making the rivet hole and then to clamp it and, during the mounting (carried out once) of the unmachined part of the pliers, to finish-machine all joint mating surfaces by machining units movable in opposite directions.
