PURPOSE:To facilitate discharging starting, shorten restarting time and to reduce the necessary voltage for restarting by a method wherein a filament formed into a double coil and supplied with an electron emission material is attached to one of the electrodes of a luminous tube. CONSTITUTION:Main electrodes 2, 3 are arranged on both sides and a filament 5 made from tungsten and formed into a double coil is connected to the main electrode 2, the desired amount of mercury and a suitable amount of argon gas for helping starting being enclosed in a luminous tube 1. The filament connected to the main electrode 2 is connected to a lighting apparatus 12 via a lead wire 10, the main electrode being connected to a lead wire 8 via a molybdenum foil 14 and a lead-in lead wire. The filament 5 is placed across the molybdenum foils 14, 15 and lead-in lead wires 16, 17 whereby the lead-in lead wire 17 is connected with the lead wire 10. Thus discharge starting is extremely facilitated, while restarting time is shortened. In addition, the voltage necessary for restarting is also considerably lowered. |
