<p>Appts. delivers a liq. contg. suspended impurities for removal to the top of a static gravity filter of the inclined grill type. The incoming liq. flows in succession through at least two laterally divergent, flat spreader channels. The width of the inlet of each channel is at least equal to the width of the outlet of the upstream channel or supply pipe. The least dimension of any cross-section of a channel is adequate to give clearance to the biggest suspended impurity or agglomeration of impurities. The channels are sized and cross section are profiled so that impurities remain suspended as the flowing liq. becomes progressively shallower. Pref. a first channel rises vertically to feed a second spreader channel which is open-topped and practically horizontal. The second channel rises very slightly to bend gently downwards and discharge via a guide chute on to the top edge of the inclined filter grill. Used partic. in sugar refineries, for the filtration of can or beet sugar liquors. The controlled flow of liq. on its way to the filter eliminates dead spaces and prevents build up in the feed channels. There is no need for cleaning stoppages.</p> |
