<p>The damping device is incorporated on the internal surfaces of a conduit such as an automobile exhaust pipe, serving to regularise the flow of fluids under fluctuating pressures or to maintain the uniform flow of fluids under constant pressures. It breaks up the shock waves by reducing the contours and regularising the flow. The device comprises a spiral wound rigid strip which is installed in the pipe. The surface of the strip may incorporate open punched holes pointing in the same direction forming small blind recesses facing the flow of gas. The recesses may be formed in the walls of the pipe itself, and may have perforated internal surfaces.</p> |
