PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of blowholes in welded metal by blowing gaseous CO2 from the rear of a weld zone in case of performing butt welding and fillet welding of materials to be welded by a submerged arc welding. CONSTITUTION:In butt welding or fillet welding of materials 3 to be welded, a chamber 4 for storing gaseous CO2 is placed on the rear side of the weld zone, and gaseous CO2 is blown from the rear of the weld groove with the nozzles 6 of flexible tubes 5 mounted to said chamber. The gaseous CO2 acts as a shielding gas, and prevents the generation of defects such as blowholes and pinholes consisting essentially of oxygen in the welded metal of the weld zone. |
