The device suspends overhead cables on multiple insulator chains. It has a spacer whose one end can be hinged to the insulator chains and whose other end is articulated to the cable clamps. A damping device is provided for a case of an overload caused by the chain break. The spacer (5) is of single or multiple division, and its parts (10,11) are movably interconnected. In the middle plane (X-X) the spacer is divided between the isolator chains (1,2), or parallel to this axis. The movable interconnection of the spacer parts may be provided on the ends facing the cable clamps (6,7), while at their other ends their movement freedom is limited by stop surfaces (20,21). The spacer parts may be interconnected by a joint (12), the joining position being mounted in protrusions in the direction of the cable clamps.
