<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as an intermediate for drugs, by cultivating a bacterium having an oxidative ability on benzyl ether of tetramethyl- substituted hexadecatetraen-1-ol, etc. in a medium consisting of the above-mentioned compound as a main carbon source, followed by collecting it from the culture. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium having an oxidative ability on a compound shown by the formula I (n is integer of 1-5; A is hydroxyl-protecting group, e.g., benzyl group or 2-tetrahydropyranyl group) is cultivated in a medium consisting of the compound shown by the formula I as a main carbon source, to collect a compound shown by the formula II (R is hydroxymethyl, formyl, or carboxyl) from the culture. A bacterium belonging to the genus Nocardia is used as the bacterium, and its typical one is a strain (BPM 1613, FERM-P 1609). EFFECT:An unreacted substance can be recovered readily and reused as a raw material. USE:A synthetic intermediate for polyprenyl alcohol useful as a hypotensor.</p> |
