To save labour and costs of equipment when cell tissue cultures are grown in monolayers on support surfaces, a plate heat exchanger is provided on whose plate surfaces the cells are allowed to spread by circulating a growth medium with air or oxygen in solution through the spaces in which flow takes place. The medium can be passed from a tank through the heat exchanger via a pump and back to the tank via a device which removes the gas and which is equipped with a sterile filter. The temperature is controlled by circulating heating or cooling water through the remaining interstices of the heat exchanger with the aid of a pump. |
