An intrauterine contraceptive device has incorporated metal or metal alloy physiologically active material on its surface, esp. metallically pure copper. The device has a first portion (4) designed to rest against the mouth of the uterus and a second portion (6,7) bent from this and extending into the cervical canal. Here it has a splayed-out action which holds it in place. Both the outer or first portion and at least a part of the second portion contain or carry the metallic contraceptive agent esp. pure copper. The straight, spring portions extend pref. to within 0.5-1 cm. of the inner end of the cervical canal. The first portion (4) is pref. 0.5-1 cm. in dia., while on the second portion (6,7) small spheres or hemispheres or hollow spheres of the metallic physiologically active material are fixed. Compared to the coil, this device is simpler to fit, and remains reliable over a longer period. It cannot be displaced.
|
