The cable wires (35) are clamped between stripping bars (25, 32) which are pressed resiliently onto one another and are drawn along on the wires in order to align them. The wires are then cut to the same length and are stripped by notching the insulation and pulling it off. The stripping bars (25, 32), stripping blades (22, 30) and cutting blade (23) are arranged in a block (11) which can be displaced horizontally and is accommodated in a housing (8) which can likewise be displaced and also supports the clamping jaws (18, 19) for the wires. <IMAGE>
