1396151 Screening particles from liquids DEEP SEA VENTURES INC 25 May 1972 [25 May 1971] 24727/72 Heading B1D A suspension of solid particles in a liquid, e.g. manganese nodules raised by airlift pumping from the sea bed, is passed tangentially through a curved pipe 34 into foraminous cylindrical cage 21 which contains a helical deflector 42, the arrangement being such that liquid (and air) passes outwards through the openings between the rings 68 and vertical supports 48 of the cage, and the separated particles flow down the inside the cage and are discharged from cone 70 which is connected to the lower end of the cage by apron 66. The liquid flowing out of the cage is directed downwards by deflectors 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60; and the separated air rises to the open upper end of the casing 20. The liquid collects on pan 74 and drains through pipe 76. |
