The dispenser consists of an inner cylinder (12) fitting inside an outer cylindrical housing (32). The inner cylinder is open at its lower end and has a nozzle (17) at its upper end. A piston (19) inside the inner cylinder has teeth (45,46) which grip a central rod (48) and the cylinder wall in such a way that the piston can only move upwards. A compression spring (28) is fitted between the lower end of the inner cylinder and the base cover (33) of the outer housing. By pressing the inner cylinder further into the outer housing, a measured amount of toothpaste is expelled.
