摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a vertical magnetic recording medium for high-density recording by forming two-layer lamination structure consisting of magnetic thin films which contain Co and Cr and have vertical magnetic anisotropy while the film having large Cr content is used as a writing layer and the film having small content is used as a reading layer. CONSTITUTION:On a substrate 1 of glass, ceramics, etc. a writing layer 11 is formed by using a thin film (having 0.2-3.0mum thickness) which contains 15- 20wt% Cr and Co for the remainder, has vertical magnetic anisotropy, and is large in coercive force Hc and small in saturated magnetization Ms. On the layer 11, a reading layer (having 0.2-3.0mum thickness) 12 by using a Co-Cr alloy layer which contains more 5-15wt% Cr than the layer 11, has vertical magnetic anisotropy, and is small in Hc and large Ms. On the layer 12, SiO2 is vapor- deposited to provide a protective layer 3 at need. Thus, a magnetic recording tape for high-density vertical recording has large Mc and Ms and an excellent S/N ratio, and achieves improved recording and reproduction.
