In a dust collection container (6) mounted detachably on the main housing (1) of a vacuum cleaner (Figure 2), there are a primary filter (8), consisting of a vertical wall (8a) and horizontal wall (8b) which are each permeable to air and filter dust, and a secondary filter (9) behind the vertical wall (8a). A first dust path (11), formed between the horizontal wall of the primary filter and the bottom of the collection container (6), passes into a second dust path (10) formed between the vertical wall of the primary filter and the secondary filter (9). The vertical and horizontal walls (8a, 8b) of the primary filter preferably contain a relatively coarse filter material for screening relatively large dust particles, and the secondary filter preferably contains finer filter material for trapping dust particles which have passed through the primary filter. The dust collected on the two filters (8 and 9) can be removed after opening a lid (12) arranged opposite the primary filter vertical wall. <IMAGE>
