1,050,256. Anodizing nickel. INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd. Nov.3, 1965 [Nov.16, 1964], No.46575/64. Heading C7B. Nickel foil e.g. 0À025 - 0À125 mm. thick is activated to render it suitable for an anode in an alkaline accumulator by anodizing it while in contact with an inert, porous, electrically non-conducting membrane or mask, e. g. nylon fabric, polyvinyl chloride, polyester polystyrene, polyethylene sheet, or glass, preferably with average pore size of 5 to 200 microns. The electrolyte may consist of 50-100 g/1 NaHCO 3 , or 50-500 g/1 Na 3 BO 3 and 10-40 g/1 H 3 BO 3 ; the current density is preferably 100-500 micro-amps/sq. cm. The porous membrane ensures the uniform distribution of active nickel hydroxide. |
