PURPOSE:To obtain a highly sensitive optical fiber sensor for detection of temperature and pressure, by forming a refractive index distribution of an optical core in such way that the refractive index is lowered toward the center of the distribution. CONSTITUTION:For a distribution 13 of the refractive index (n) to the diameter (r) of an optical fiber sensor in the sectional direction, n=n0{1+DELTA(r/a)<i>} and DELTA=(n1-n0)/n0 are satisfied where O is the center point of an optical fiber and (a) is the radius of the core part. And n0 the refractive index of a cladding part 11, n1 is the maximum refractive index of the core part, and (i) is the real number value of 0.2-4 respectively. Such optical fiber is formed by changing the amount of the dope of B2O3 through the vapor phase method or diffusing an ion from outside to increase the refractive index. Thus a highly sensitive optical fiber sensor is obtained for detection of the temperature and pressure. |
