Title compds. (I; R = H, alkyl, halo substituted lower alkyl, C3-6 cycloalkyl, styryl, naphthyl, furyl; R1 = V) were prepd. Thus, cis- and trans-antibiotic BM 123g(II, III) were dissolved in MeOH and IV (R2 = RCO) added. The pH was adjusted to 8.0 by the addn. of Amberlite 1R45 resin and the mixt. stirred. IV(R2 = RCO) were prepd. by(a) suspending IV(R2 = H) and RCOC1 in MeOH and by the reaction of (b)IV(R2 = H), RCO2H, and N,N-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide in THF. IV(R2 = H) and Me(CH2)8COCl in pyridine gave IV(R2 = Me(CH2)8CO, which reaction with III to give trans-I(R = Me(CH2)8, R1 = V).
