An apparatus for treating a limb comprises a chamber to receive the limb and having an aperture through which the limb is inserted, the aperture being provided with an inflatable closure means. Adjustable controlling means determine the pressure in the chamber, the pressure in the closure and the temperature in the chamber. The chamber 1 is shown provided with a removable end cover 6 which is selected to have the desired size of entry connection 7 but in each case the connection has an inflatable cuff 8 to ensure an air-tight seal around the limb. The opposite end wall 2 carries a thermostat 3, a fan 4 and a heating or cooling coil 5. Air pressure is supplied to the closure means 8 from a pump 9 under the control of a pressure regulator 15 which actuates electrically-operated valves 12, 19 to effect the air admission to or release from the device 8. Hand-controlled throttles 14, 18 determine the rate of flow of air in either direction. Similar devices are provided for controlling the air supply to the chamber 1 but in this case the connecting pipe 22 may additionally be coupled to the intake side of the pump 9 to give a rarefaction in the chamber 1 when desired. Automatic timing means 35, 36 determine the length of the treatment. |
