In an apparatus on shuttleless looms for forming an edge (S1, S2) on each of the two sides of the fabric (F), the two ends of each weft-yarn portion (Y1) are guided through between the two threads of a respective pair of binding threads (b1, b2, b'1, b'2) and are then retained by being twisted. Twisting takes place in identical twisting directions by means of respective binding devices (14, 16) at each fabric edge, the said binding devices supplying the pairs of binding threads and being driven in opposite directions of rotation. <IMAGE>
