PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber having uniform outside diameter and uniform clad width, by injecting into a pipe made of a thermoplastic resin a liquid resin composition or the like having a refractive index higher than that of the pipe resin, simultaneously heating the pipe, and spinning a fiber having a specified outside diameter. CONSTITUTION:A liquid resin composition, such as silicone rubber precursor or silicone oil, or a liquid compound, such as polystyrene or polycarbonate is injected into a pipe made of a thermoplastic resin having a refractive index lower than that of said liquid injected, said pipe is heated, and a fiber having a fixed outside diameter is spun to give a plastic optical fiber. The thermoplastic resin need to be lower in refractive index than the resin composition or the compound used for the core component, and polymethyl methacrylate, polyvinyl fluoride, polytetrafluoroethylene, polypropylene, etc. are usable. |
