The anti-theft protection is intended for preventing unauthorised use of the vehicle. It has a transmitter and at least one locking and/or warning device actuated by a receiver. Between the transmitter and receiver infra-red coded transmission is maintained via an optical fibre cable. The receiver and the devices which it activates form a switchable module in a safety housing. A radio (1) in the motor vehicle is used for activation of the infra-red transmitter (8), with a possibility of coding the radio via its keyboard (3). Pref. the infra-red transmitter is mounted in the housing (5) of the radio, or is mounted in the car such that it cannot be dismantled without removing the radio. The latter may have locking members (11), moved in a latching position when the anti-theft protection is switched on.
