Control of the axial movement of a focusing element in a lens is described on the basis of signals, representing the object distance, from an automatic distance measuring device. Since distance setting is possible manually as well as automatically, the invention relates in particular to the incorporation of an operational mode selector mechanism in the mechanical mount of a variofocal lens.
