Flame retardant polymer compositions

Polymers are made flame retardant by the use of phosphates of the general formula wherein R is a C1-C9 alkyl group, a C6-C9 cycloalkyl group or a C7-C9 aralkyl group, n is 0-3 and x has an average value greater than 0 but less than 3. Compounds wherein R is isopropyl or t-butyl and n is indeterminate and which have been derived from mixtures of alkylated phenols are new compounds.
