Non-absorbent plastic material for cheque cards etc. is provided with a writing area in which it is coated with -COOH-contg. copolymers of (meth)acrylic acid or copolymers of vinyl chloride or vinyl acetate. Pref. the coating is applied in a solvent which is capable of etching the plastic material, e.g. esters, ketones or cyclic ethers, and contains white pigments having a high absorption capacity and a particle size of approx. 0.04 mu, e.g. carbonates of divalent metals. The coating pref. has a thickness of approx. 15 mu, and is covered with a protective lacquer after being written on and signed, e.g. opt. branched hydrocarbons with a proportion of low aromatic hydrocarbons and a poly(meth)acrylic ester. |
