PURPOSE:To prepare the titled product containing a glucopeptide as a main component, economically, by adding concentrated alcohol to the pulp juice of a watermelon, treating the mixture at a low temperature, concentrating the product, and removing the impurities harmful to nephritis, e.g. potassium, from the product. CONSTITUTION:The objective product containing a substance effective to nephritis is prepred by dissolving a material composed mainly of a glucopeptide in pure water. The glucopeptide has the following characteristics: contains unidentified saccharide and peptide; exhibits two different migration fractions by high- tension paper electrophoresis and thin-layer chromatography; absorption peak at 325mmu by microburet method; unique IR absorption spectrum; specific rotation,[d]D<25.5>=+374.91 deg. (in wate); positive to ninhydrin reaction, etc., negative to TCA (25%) reaction. The glucopeptide used as the active component can be prepared by treating the pulp juice of a watermelon with a concentrated alcohol (85-90%) at a low temperature (<=0 deg.C), and precipitating and removing proteins, pigments, potassium, etc. |
