<p>A waterproof compsn for the bulk or surface treatment of plaster (-based prods.) comprises a soln. of a silane monomer which, after hydrolysis, forms a silicone resin and is of formula Rx Si(OR')n, (when R and R' are 1-4 C alkyl or phenyl, x and n are integers whose sum is 4, x can be o). The solvent for the soln. is miscible with water and solubilises the silane in water. The treated plaster is used in the building industry. Plaster panels treated as above have much more reduced water absorption than those treated with conventional waterproofing agents.The evaporation rate of the silane is reduced by using a water-miscible solvent.</p> |
