A readily releasable retaining cleat for ropes, straps, etc., comprises an anchoring member (1 and 15 respectively) to secure the cleat in relation to a base. An element (2, 13,) is pivotally mounted in relation to the anchoring member. and incorporates members to lock the rope, strap, etc. in a specific direction. The said pivotally element (2, 13), is pivotally mounted relative to the anchoring member (1 and 15 respectively) by means of a pivot shaft (7, 16 and 17). Said shaft is located in such a position that it - in the locking direction of the cleat - causes the rope (3), strap, etc., to endeavour upon load to move the element (2, 13) against a stop (5 or 4) while tending to increase the locking influence of the said locking member on the rope, strap, etc. Furthermore, the said stop (5 or 4) is placed on the same side of the said pivot shaft (7, 16, and 17) as the direction of pull of the rope or strap is exerted in the locking position of the cleat. <IMAGE> |
