<p>The binding for a book between stiff covers includes cutting the folded edges of the signatures and applying a binding layer then a strengthening layer on the edges of which packing strips are mounted. Over these is applied a larger layer with wings, the same size as the pages. The covers are applied as a composite layer, incorporating the spine. The composite layer includes a resilient inner layer adhesively attached to the wings of the outer layer around the pages of the book. The remainder of the composite layer consists of hard covers resiliently attached to the spine.</p> |
