<p>The pressure arterial blood pressure to be measured is applied to a flexible membrane across the opening of a capsule contg. opaque liq. In the neck of the capsule a smaller quantity of transparent liq. floats on the opaque liq., and the interface level is sensed by a photocell facing an optical projector. Rapid restoration of the membrane to follow instantaneous variations of the pressure is aided by an ar pocket trapped between the transparent liq. and the plug sealing the top of the capsule. The capsule is housed in a tapered cavity in the tip of a probe with wires for the projector supply and photocell output. The transparent liq. can be gelatine, and the opaque liq. mercury.</p> |
