The butter distributor comprises a receptacle (11) and a rasp or grater (12) which is mounted in it. A square platen (21) presses the butter in the receptacle against the grater and a cranked handle (19) which is screw-threaded for part of its length is rotated to squeeze the slab of butter between the grater and platen. Both the platen and grater are square and so do not rotate. The butter is forced through the holes in the grater into a frusto-conical outlet container (22).
