PURPOSE:To obtain a compact reference electrode whose electrode output is stable, by attaching a macromolecular film having an inactive molecular structure whose surface potential is not changed on the outermost surface of a gate part of an ion selective field effect transistor. CONSTITUTION:The ion selective field effect transistor has a source 34, a drain 33, and a gate 31 on a channel P. An ion selective, ion responsive film attached on the outermost surface of the gate part of said transistor, i.e., the surface of an insulating layer of a channel part between the source and the drain or on the insulating layer, is covered by an ion inactive macromolecular film 35. Said macromolecular film 35 is a macromolecular film which has the inactive molecular structure wherein the surface potential is not generated by ions or their activities in a sample solution or the magnitude of the surface potential is not changed even though it is generated. Said film comprises e.g. fluorocarbon resin, polystyrene resin, polyvinyl chloride and the like. The thickness of the film is about 10-1,000mu. |
