There is proposed an ear protection enclosing an air volume and comprising an ear shell (20), an ear pad (21) and a diaphragm (22) inserted in an opening (23). The rigidity and mass of the diaphragm (22) are determined in such a way that the attenuation frequency response of the ear protection is level from low frequencies (200 Hz or less) to the frequencies important for understanding of speech (at least 2 kHz). Instead of the diaphragm or additionally to it, it is possible to use other designs for flattening the frequency response e.g. other diaphragms and intermediate walls with connecting tubes which subdivide the volume enclosed in the ear shell. The invention can also be applied to an ear plug. <IMAGE>
