The vessel has two tilting trunnions located in bearings on a foundation. One trunnion carries a large gearwheel meshing with a pinion driven by a motor resting on the foundation. The gearwheel and pinion are surrounded by a casing carried by the trunnion; and the casing rests on the foundation via a torque support. The drive shaft of the motor enters an axial hole in the pinion; and the shaft is connected to the bore of the pinion by a flexible coupling. The tilting trunnion can flex, and the drive unit only required a small space.
