The prepn. of a raw hide chew for animals comprises mixing comminuted raw hide with a smaller proportion of gelatin, together with salt and food colouring, adding a large amt. of water and finally drying the chew in air. The chew is suitable for cats and dogs, and fills the stomach of the animal. The chew can be kept for unlimited periods of time without deterioration. The chew uses raw hide waste from the leather industry, and is therefore economical. It is esp. useful for hunters, as it fills a hunting dogs stomach with proteinaceous natural materials. |
