PURPOSE:To enable picture rewriting time to be shortened by dividing each display line into two, and installing data writing parts at both sides of the display line. CONSTITUTION:Shift channels SC1 and SC2 are electrically divided into two at a dividing line P-P'. In order to make both simultaneous writing and shifting in relatively opposite direction to be carried out in the divided channels, the arrangements of the X-side electrode groups of divided channels SC1-L and SC1-R, as well as the arrangements of the X-side electrode groups of divided channels SC2-L and SC2-R are made to be in reverse order; they are made to be vertically symmetrical. In divided channels SC1-R and SC2-R, and in divided channels SC1-L and SC2-L, respectively, spots developed by writing discharge cells WR and WL can be shifted in horizontal opposite directions, in order, along the shift discharge cell groups which are arranged in reverse order. |
