<p>An extrusion die head adaptor has a runner system which repeatedly subdivides in a symmetrical fashion so that the melt flow length of all parts of the outlet die is balanced. Used esp. for a cross-head die for casting a wire or other continuous profile passing at an angle relative to the axis of a screw plasticisation unit. A uniform residence time and pressure distribution can be maintained for moulding materials which may differ in their rheological and thermal characteristics; conventional swan neck flow passage profiles for redirecting the flow axis of an extrudate are only balanced for a particular combination of rheological and thermal characteristics, are not ideal if used for a material other than that for which they were designed.</p> |
