The lamp has a discharge lamp at least 1 metre of length enclosed by a reflector (8) and by a filter (71) which blocks part of the UV spectrum. The lamp housing is divided into two parts (1,2), the upper part (1) containing the lamp (9) and ventilation fans (61,62) for drawing air in and discharging it after it has been fed through a cooling channel (53) between the filter (71) and a protective plate (72) across the front of the reflector (8) housed in the bottom part (2) of the housing. The discharge fan (62) is mounted on the end face of the discharge chamber (54) near one of the lamp mountings, with air intake openings near the other end of the housing. At least two fans (61) are used to draw in the air and feed it to the press chamber (52) defined by the bottom part (2) of the housing. The lamp is efficiently cooled allowing a 10 K Watt discharge lamp to be used.
