<p>A water-diluted wood preservative concentrate which does not require a substantial amount of petroleum-derived solvent comprises, by weight, from 5 to 43 parts of at least one organic, water-insoluble insecticide and/or at least one organic fungicide, which may be water-soluble or water-insoluble, from 5 to 35 parts of at least one water- dilutable synthetic resin, from 35 to 5 parts of at least one plasticiser or water-insoluble organic solvent containing hydroxyl and/or ether groups, from 36 to 10 parts of at least one non-ionic emulsifier, from 0 to 6 parts of a buffer compound or pH regulator, and from 0 to 15 parts of water. The concentrate can be diluted with water in the proportions 10 to 30% of anhydrous concentrate to 90 to 70% water for use in preserving wood or timber. A process for making the concentrate is described by treating at least the insecticide and/or fungicide, plasticiser and/or solvent and emulsifier at a temperature of 10 to 80 DEG C., and under a pressure of 0.5332 to 1.1332 bars until a solution is formed. The remaining components may be added before or after such treatment.</p> |
